There is something wonderfully satisfying about temaki. Crisp nori, soft sushi rice and a fresh filling all wrapped into a cone that is as fun to eat as it is to make. In this version, we pair creamy avocado with our new salmon toro and finish everything with a spicy honey sesame sauce that brings sweetness, heat and depth in just the right measure.
Temaki, often described as a hand roll, is one of the most relaxed and approachable ways to enjoy sushi at home. It was created to solve the problem of eating sushi on the go, and it is meant to be assembled by hand and eaten fresh, making it ideal for simple but high-impact recipes like this one.
At the heart of this recipe is our newest product: salmon toro. It is the richest, most indulgent part of our smoked salmon, prized for its silky texture, delicate bite and soft, elegant flavour. This is exactly the kind of cut that shines in a recipe like temaki, where the ingredients are few and every element gets the attention it deserves.
The avocado adds creaminess, the spring onion brings freshness, and the spicy honey sesame sauce lifts the whole recipe with a balance of sweet, savoury and gently fiery notes. The result is an easy recipe that feels refined, generous and absolutely worth making at home.
Here’s how to make it:
Ingredients (Makes 8 temaki)
- 100g Smokin’ Brothers salmon toro
- 4 nori sheets
- 125g sushi rice
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 spring onion
For the sauce:
- 1 tbsp sriracha
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp lime juice
- 1 tsp sesame oil
Method
1. Start by making the sauce. Add the sriracha, honey, soy sauce, lime juice and sesame oil to a small bowl and whisk until smooth and fully combined.
2. Slice the salmon toro sashimi-style and set aside the pieces you want to use for the temaki. We recommend using no more than two slices per cone.
3. Cut the avocado into thin vertical slices and finely slice the spring onion.
4. Cut each nori sheet in half. Place one half on a board and spread the sushi rice, cooked according to the packet instructions, over one side of the nori. Slightly wet hands will help stop the rice from sticking.
5. Arrange the avocado, spring onion and salmon toro diagonally over the rice, starting from the centre and working towards the top left corner.
6. Roll the nori from left to right to create a cone shape.
7. Serve immediately with the spicy honey sesame sauce and a little extra soy sauce on the side if you like.

Fresh, rich and full of contrast, these smoked salmon 'toro' temaki are a simple way to enjoy our newest product in a recipe that feels both elegant and easy.
